Doncaster Council say theyre not considering installing CCTV in Elmfield Park despite the fatal stabbing in the area a week ago

Doncaster Council say they're not considering installing security cameras in Elmfield Park because it isn't a crime hotspot.

A week ago today 13 year old Casey-Lyanne Kearney was fatally stabbed in the area. Since then parents and local residents have raised concerns about safety in the park.

One resident, Bev Hunston, says there needs to be more security:

"You get all sorts in the park and its not even safe in there for kids I don't think. I wouldn't let my kid in there. I think there should be proper lighting and either have CCTV or get someone patrolling the park."

Assistant Director of Environment at Doncaster Council, Gill Gillies, said:

"We appreciate that there are concerns among residents following recent events but want to reassure people about Elmfield Park.

"In general there have been a low number of calls to the police and these are mainly for low level anti-social behaviour.

"The council has only received a couple of calls in the last twelve months for environmental issues and one for rough sleeping.

"CCTV is best used to gather intelligence in crime and anti-social behaviour hotspots, we are not currently considering installing cameras in the park."
