US Divers Train in Sheffield
Story Highlight
The FINA Diving World Cup is being held in Londons new Olympic Aquatic Centre. This weeks tournament acts as qualification for London 2012
An international diving team who've been training in Sheffield are getting ready to take on the rest of the world this week. If they do well, they'll qualify for the Games, and will come back to South Yorkshire in the run up to London 2012.
The American squad's been based at Pond's Forge in the run up to the Diving World Cup, which begins at the Olympic Aquatic Centre in London today.
Coach Steve Foley, who used to live in Chesterfield when he worked with Team GB's divers, told us Pond's Forge is the perfect venue.
'It's a big stadium. It's a real competition venue, so when they go from here to London, even though London's bigger, they won't be over-awed.
'That's one of the reasons we chose Pond's Forge. It's a proper competition venue with world class facilities.'
The team held an open training session in front of some of South Yorkshire's young up and coming divers in the run up to the games, and told us they can't wait to be back in the summer.
